Rockets on a Train

while counting the chapters, I realised that chapter 6 (derailed) was really short.
So i created a new Team Rocket encounter that happens in chapter 6 to pad it out.

They're going to try hijack the train. It's gonna involve walking along the top of the train, taking down team rocket grunts and disarming bombs.

Also, it links to the upcoming event in ignis town. Where you'll meet a "new" character.

Viridis Isles

Done some more mapping, here's Viridis Isles; It's south of ignis island. Bugs and water pokemon can be found here. Including a corrupted Scyther.


I've also finished revamping the following Eevee. I've gone through righorus testing with it, and it seems to be a lot more fluid and lacks any weird errors seen in the one present in v0.6

Ignis island and volcano

I've changed the website address.

Now the url is

In ember woods lives the Surf Master. He gives out surfing lessions if people give him lava crystals. Lava crystals can be found in the volcano.

If you find and give him one, he'll give you a surfboard, allowing you to cross bodies of water. If you find 4 lava crystals, he'll modify the surfboard giving it a crystal base, allowing you to traverse pools of lava, which you'll need to reach the moletres that lives in the volcano.

This is the interior of the Ignis Volcano.

Ember Woods

Map update. I've been mapping Ember Woods. It's west of Ignis town. you'll get the surfboard and fight a corrupted ninetails will stalk you in the woods, a heracross can also be obtained via bait spot.

It's right next to a volcano, the nutrient rich ground and tropic temperature gives the leaves an autum look all year round. wild pokemon found there are along the fire and bug variety. including; growlithe, vulpix*, ledyba, ledian, heracross*.

Version 0.6 Beta Program

The v0.6 Beta is here.

It's gonna work a bit differently than v0.5
The current build is the testing build, although the game works, it might be glitch prone. Atleast one gamebreaking one had been found.

I'll be releasing patches for the game every few days or until the game becomes relatively stable.
Once that happens, I'll release the v0.6 DEMO version. This version will contain all the fixes so there will be no need to patch it up.

You can find the latest files on v0.6 (including download and all patches) in this folder

I'll post all found/fixed bugs in this google docs file.
If you find bugs not mentioned in that file, post them on the Pokecommunity thread, and ill fix it and add you to the beta-tester list. :)

v0.601 Patch had been released a few days ago. It is a high priorty patch and fixes the evolution while event glitch which caused various bugs and even crashing of the game.

Shinies in comming versions

Shinies in SPEE will be a lot more common than official games, probably a 1 in 512 chance.
The roll for shinies are done directly after a battle, if you do get the roll, you'll isntantly be thrust into a shiny battle.
These shinies are inderpendednt of the area you're in, so you might even fight a shiny wurmple in the middle of the ocean.


Shinies will appear in v0.6. BUT make sure you scan them for an upcomming feature in v0.7


For every shiny you scan, you can turn one of your own fully evolved pokemon into a shiny. To make up for the fact you can't catch shinies themselves.
Although the turn-into-shiny feature won't be in v0.6, any you scan will still be counted in v0.7

Latios, Shiny and release schedule

Ok, ok, ok... due to some of the feedback, I've slightly changed how the lati@s situation will work now.

Latios will be the first one you get, then it will die halfway around part2, and get replaced by latias.
but you can get latios back. Either with a cheat code ill implement, or with new game+ (Whichever lati@s you had at the time of NG+, will die. and get replaced by the other, the cycle will repeat if you keep NG+ing)

So... latios -> killed -> latias -> newgame+ > latias -> killed -> latios.
So there'll be flexability if you like one more than the other.


I've sorta made shiny pokemon in the game. (althought i've only programmed a handful right now.)

basically after each battle, the game will roll for a shiny chance -(A really small chance) If you win the chance, you'll instantly get into a fight with a shiny pokemon.

It doesn't matter where you are. Fighting team rockets, in the middle of the ocean, in the code world or the safari zone. After every battle, a roll takes place.

The shiny pokemon you encounter won't depend on your location. It will be a preselected shiny pokemon.

Im torn about which way to go for it.

SUPER RARE-I can either make it a very rare occurance (1 in 8192, like the games) and make it you get very very rare items from them (auto regen, +500 stats, half/no PP cost)


RAREI can make it a relatively common (1 in 256?) you'll get good, items from them, but it creates another Metagame involving trying to encounter all shinies.(there'll be only 10-30 of them programmed in.)

Minor Stuff
Eevee's evolutions will be getting a minor movlist upgrade. they initally had 14 moves, its now increasing to 16 to match every other pokemon.
Plus, ive balanced out their forms a bit. eg: flareon was underpowered. due to only having a fire spin as it's strongest fire attack. Now that fire spin will be repaced by a fire fang.

Still programming in pokemon. I only have 35 more to program in. After that all pokemon will be functioning. (but not catchable.)

Release Schedule
I've written up a loose release schedule. These are very loose, and will probably change. Though if all goes well, 1.0 should be released by the end of the year.

More Cheats

Cheat Kodes.
-I decided to add more.

Konami Code- up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, cancel, confirm
-Gives 30 phoenix downs for first 3 tries, then Gives 1 phoenix down.

Big Head mode- up, left, down, right, up, left, down, right, confirm, confirm
-Just gives the main character an amusly large head.

Super Bike- ????
-Makes bike go super fast.

No Encoutners- ????
-No random encounters for the current area (resets when you exist the area)

Activate Day/Night Cycle- ????
-Once Day/Night system is obtained, tiles will switch from day to night every hour or so.

You guys could give suggestions, I don't want gamebreaking ones, so no godmode or clip through walls.

Alternate Logo

I was bored yesterday, so made this to pass time.
It's quite a nice contrast to the normal logo.

It's quite fitting since SPEE is a Pokemon/Final Fantasy hybrid.

Summons Update

I've changed the system- Before you needed Eeveeon to summon, but now- Any form of eevee can summon (once you've obtained one)

Hotkeys Rearranged

Before- hotkeys 1-9 were used for various items. But it often got confusing which key corrisponds to which item. So i've now grouped up some items.

#1- Set 1: Basic Items (Cellphone, Map, Quest Log)
#2- Set 2: Trainer Items (Trainer ID, Pokédex, Badge Case)*
#3- Set 3: Tile Swap (Day/Night)*//(Day/Night/Old/New)*

#4- ManMan2000*
#5- Tetra Element (eevee switch)*
#6- Team Switcher *

It should make it easier to remember. (in later versions, I may add the ability to customise the hotkeys.)

Zantetzuken- Latios Summon

Im currently programming in a new summon. This summon will be special though.

Latios. will use an attack called Zantetzuken. It's not a normal attack. Latios will INSTANTLY KILL ALL ENEMIES. Regardless of type, level, stats, hell it could even be a boss battle* (except major bosses, like AIs)

Latios cannot be summoned manually. Summon stones will not change the fact.
Latios will have a small % of appearing at the start of the battle. around 1%-5%.
people who've played it, will recognise this as yet another mechanic stolen from FFVIII. Loved seeing Odin jump into battle and decimate all enemeis.

Direction, easter eggs, cheat codes

Minor update.


-I decided to add more "direction" to the game. When characters talk to you, they'll be more likely to tell you what to do/where to go. Often it could be hard to tell where to go.

For the people who don't like reading through text, important directions will now be highlighted in text.

-If you don't know what to do in the game, you can now call Oak. He will give directions on where to go.

-In the next beta, tile switching(day/night/old/new) is deactivated, retrning to just day/night. You'll have to defeat the AI geosigma to get old/new.
If you had obtained Regirock, moletres and lugia would have been added too for that beta. Upon booting the new one, moletres and lugia will be removed. As you'll have to obtain them legitimetly.

Item Codes Moved

-the "Input Number" function on the cell phone will be removed. Don't want people getting a whole arsenal of free items before the game starts. The function of getting free items via codes is moved to the Rainbow tower's prize zone. the old codes will work in there, with a bunch of new ones to be added.

Cheat Codes

-I started thinking... what ever happened to cheat codes. :( . So, I decided to program in the Konami Code (for lulz)

up,up,down,down,left,right,left,right,back,confirm = obtain 30x phoenix down.
(refrence to contra's- 30 lives cheat.)
It can be used up to 3 times before the effect of 30 phoenix downs drops to only 1.

Easter Eggs

-Just a random idea I thought of. easter eggs will be items in the game. Obtained with special means. I've only programmed in 2 so far.
One for doing the konami code. and one for recognising an age old rumour...
The Mew Truck rumour.

You need surf to get to that truck, im not sure if surf will make it into the next beta. but whatever.

Ignis Island is the newest location in SPEE. It has a volcano which formed the island. Theres a town on the foot of the volcano, which has a harbor that can take you to other harbor towns.

There are two routes on Ignis island. Route 15 to the east of Ignis Town and Route 16 to the west. Fire based wild pokemon can be found there. Including a Corrupted Growlithe.

The main volcano can also be traversed. Numels and Slugma are found there. A corrupted Slugma can also be caught. Deep in the volcano there lies a moletres which once defeat can be summoned.
EDIT: Route 15, and the volcano will be delayed to v0.7, so I can get v0.6 out earlier.

Adpotion Agency Update

You can now adpot new pokemon, depending on the amount of badges you have.
0- Pichu
4- Smoochum
5- Elekid
6- Magby

Also, speaking of elekid and magby. Their final evolutions will now be obtainable. Magmotar and Electrivire. They'll evolve if given a fire/thunder stone.


Giovanni / Team Rocket encounter #5

Anyways. Finally got some real progress done. 5th team rocket encounter. Including the first encounter with giovanni.

The 3rd AI encounter, Geosigma, will be next in development.

Evil looking corrupted pokemon have returned!

Now corrupted Pokémon will have a different colour pallet and or modified features.
They'll have red eyes, and a new corrupted aura. So identifying them will be a lot easier.

It's still under construction, I'm trying to give all of em unique features. (like the horns on gengar or additional wings on zubat)

Trainer Rank

Trainer Rank

Trainer rank is your trainer level. It is directly connected to trophies.

Trophies are given for doing stuff ingame.
Catcing pokemon, getting badges, defeating AIs, doing sidequests.

Now, starting v0.6, you will obtain a trainer rank. which is determined by your trophy points[ iron trophies give 1 point,
while gold gives 81 ](there will only be 3-4 gold trophies. 1 for catching all 201 Pokémon. Another for finishing the game etc.)

in v0.5, after beating enemy trainers, you get bonus EXP and money. It's normally 500exp and 50$. Now it will be a fluculating rate. all determined by your Trainer rank. So someone who does lots of sidequests, and catches pokemon, will have a big trainer rank, thus banking lots of bonus EXP and $ after defeating trainers.
(bonus EXP = points * 50 and bonus$ = points * 2

Your rank is level based, meaning it will be easy to gain ranks at first, but will require more and more points as you get higher ranks.

Bonus EXP is also given to any pokemon in the reserve team. And trainer rank transfers across NG+ allowing easier leveling up.
Rare candies will also be effected by trainer ranks, you don't get given levels, rather EXP. Rare Candy EXP = points * 50 (but rare candies will be more common than the games)

Switching Teams


Heres some screens to show how the pokeshifting works. Just press 9 and your pokemon team will get switched

Inbattle switching is not avaliable. You can switch when out of battle.

It works in a simple way. Just press 9, and your team members will be removed, then the B team will be added.

everything works as nromal. Initally, your B team will be empty, you must switch to B team, go to the Box and withdraw the pokemon you want.
You CAN have the same pokemon in A and B teams. The inactive team will not be getting EXP, except the bonus EXP you get after battling trainers (and there will be a lot more trainers ;) )

(I was originally planning v0.5 to go up to the next AI, so I had already created the feature, but I had to bring forward the release of v0.5 to solve the lag. so I've fused it with the day/night system for now, it will get it's own item next update )

-The rainbow is incomplete. But you can walk around it if you want. I've disabled saving inside the rainbow tower(and route 12) because if it could cause problems if that area is majorly changed.

Derailment Event

I'm happy to announce the 2 writers recriuted for this game.
BCKC and NikNaks.

They're gonna start the grammar reporting once v0.5 releases. They'll get access to an awesome exclusive Debug Mode.

Desert Events
Desert events are fully completed. including the regirock summon.

-Cacnea and shroomish have been added. Cacnea appears as a generic cactus (cacti?) in the vast Khubla Desert south, but it moves.

-The tomb of the king has a binary puzzle. You are given a "desired value"... a value between 0 and 255. You must have the "Tomb Value" match the desired value. There are 8 colums with switches on them. they change the tomb value. The first switch increases the tomb value by 1, the next by 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and lastly 128. Using a combination of the switches, you can change the tomb value to any number... between 0 and 255.
So just get the right combo to get tomb value to match the desired value 3 times. Yay. if you pass the puzzle, you have learned binary.

But if you fail at life, you can just pay a guy in the tomb to pass the puzzle for you.

-The coloured orbs appear when summoning, the symbols are the japanese characters for "Call"

-I've partially rebuilt the rainbow tower. It has no content... but you can explore the lobbies and whatnot. Im hoping to have SOME of the saffar, quiz, arcade and prize zones completed. Probably just 1-2 (maps/quizpacks/minigames)

-Shroomish will be found in a bait spot in route 8(next to soluna forest).

-After you take the train back to amplus, you can take the train to Khubla village at any time.

-In the rainbow tower, if you approach the door from the top, you'll jump over it. Just a small thing I put in there to make traveling through the rainbow tower easier.

-Lastly, you may or may not have realised my avatar has changed. That man is Solid Snake. the greatest soldier alive, stright from the greatest game series Evr! /MGS fanboy

Khubla Village Rain Station

Sorry for not updating the blog 

Progress Update
Been working on the derailment event.

Light spoilers. No specific details.

Basically, a certain AI finds that you are seriously hampering his plans. So he decides to warp you to a desert, hundreds of kilometers millions of pixels away from home.

The khubla desert. a large desert in the Duorum region (second region)
The desert is split into 5 areas: north, south, east, west and dead in the center, Khubla village.

You get warped into the south desert. going south leads to a dead end (Need "Strength" to get past- which you don't have)

North leads to khubla village, the other parts of the desert is plauged with sandstorms- so you can't get past.

The only way out is the Rail system. you'll be needing to do a favour to get a ticket to the train. which leads to... Amplus city. Yep, it gets a brand new train station.

Eeveeon and Legendary Summons

Firstly... the "New" eevee form


Eevee was pretty underused by everyone. The elemental forms were far better to use. But what about now?

At a point in the game (early in the next beta version) an event will happen causing your Eevee to evolve into an Eeveeon.

Eeveeon will fully replace the Normal eevee form. You can still switch forms into the other evolutions at any time.

It has increased stats, a very varied movepool- containing moves from each of it's related elements. And It is the only Pokémon that can make use of Summons


Summons have now been added. Heres how it works

After defeating a rouge legendary(un-captured) They will agree to help you in battle.

The avalible summons will be visible in Eeveeon's movelist when out of battle. But if you select the attack command inbattle, it will only display eeveeon's normal moves.

The key is summon stones. These are rare items that are required for summoning legendaries. If you possess atleast 1, The summon command will appear. with it, you can select a legendary to summon.

A summoned pokemon will do a single attack.

When you summon a pokemon, you'll use up a summoning stone.
Without a summon stone, you cannon summon anything.

Minor form switch change

Eevee forms used to have the attack "Form Switch", Used to switch forms inbattle. but due to the way I had to program the summons, Its getting the axe. Instead, to switch forms inbattle, you'll have to use the Tetra Element (like out of battle). The up-side is that now any pokemon can activate the tetra element. so you can switch forms when it's not even eevee's turn.

New Map and Equips

Just finished up creating a new map style. It's the map style that the G/S map is done in. looks more authentic now.

while the next region will be named "Duorum" meaning two, which you will visit for a bit in the next beta.


Updated Equips

Also, like I said updated equipments, heres how it looks now.
the status screens slightly modified. now the species will be displayed for all pokemon rather than only evolved. and lables are fixed.



I had only programmed 5 codes in, but I'll be adding a whole bunch more as there are 1 shy of a million possible combinations-. but spamming it with items could be overload. Eg: someone just starting the game could type in hundreds of codes to become overpowered before they even get their first pokemon.

I will be making a code redemption system in the rainbow tower prize zone. It will be different as it would have a cooldown period, maybe 1 code every 5 minutes.

I have 2 codes left so heres the second-to-last one. an
Ultima Potion. Fully heals the full team- as in, full HP, MP, removes bad status conditions and fully revives any dead.
(mega phoenix code and this code is a refrence to something.
+108 internets to whoever figures it out.)

Other Stuff

Thanks for the info, Yeah. pokemon are leveling a little faster than I want, I mean- your pokemon might reach level 100 before endgame.

Now, I'm planning to make a chocobo breeding type minigame. ("inspired" from FF7) Except I need a pokemon to replace the chocobos.

It needs to be a pokemon that can run fast. I want it to be ridable- but it's not manditory. would be nice, but can be done without.

The maze zone will be fused into the safari zone while the Race Zone will be taking it's place in the rainbow tower.

Also, Im tinkering with an idea... Once again, updating the evolution method.
Adding an item needed to evolve pokemon.
these won't be super hard to find or anything.

EG: to evolve charmeleon to charizard you need reach level 36 AND equip an item "Flight Wings" on it.
a "vibrant flower" to evolve ivysaur to vensauar
and "Rocket Cannons" to evolve to blastoise

Boxing Gloves to evolve Poliwhirl to poliwrath

If theres enough people interested in it, i might implement it.
might be another thing seperating it from the other pokemon games.

Flashbacks, Story Revisions and Codes.

As a new plot device, flashbacks appear when the main character goes to sleep at certain points of the game. Its the tale of twin brothers Tom and Randy(names are generic for a reason) who live in aurum town in generation 0. - Development time. when the game is getting developed.

there are currently 3 retroactive flashbacks, Meaning you people who transfer save files can still see them

The first one happens as soon as you start the game, it leads into the oak intro. -Just click new game, to see it. press F12 to reset game and load your save.

The second happens in route 6, must have defeated necro first.

The third happens in Tasto Creek, oak must have finished the day/night system.

The rest happen later past where v0.4 ends.

It's where I was originally using the gen1 tileset, then I realisied I could just use it for genral purpose. along with gen3 tiles.

Real bad news is im changing the leveling balance. 3-4 hours into the game and I already am at level 40 for all my pokemon.
Ill be trying to rebablance so it's more like the actual pokemon games. You should only be around level 40 when you finish the region.

Had almost forgotten I had added these. a 3 day late new years gift for you people playing.

040815- Mega Phoenix (although says full phoenix)
111111- Berry

I still need GWD to come out before I reveal a "new" pokemon. :|

Direct Draw Error DDERR_EXCEPTION Error Fix

A post by Craighenn  @ pokecommunity informed me of an error which may be effecting you!

If you get the error "Direct Draw Error DDERR_EXCEPTION" upon starting the game- just read this,

I have a radeon 4870x2 gfx card, the x2 pretty much means its 2 cards in one, if i try to run any rpg maker game with both cards/cores enabled i get that exact error, so if you have something similar try to disable Catalyst A.I. in the Catalyst Control Center, just to clarify, this has nothing to do with the cores on your processor just the graphics card.

It might be possible the same error happens if you have cards in SLI or crossfire but either way, if you have one card with 2 cores or 2 cards, disable one of them and it should work, hope this helps so my sacrifice wasnt in vain 

Just disable crossfire mode using the catalyst crontrol center. or something like that. Should fix it.

It's the expansion of the day-night item.

Works as a light time traveling mechanic (later) ingame. rockslide happens- go back to gen 1 where the rockslide never happened.

bridge is getting built- just travel to gen3 where it's already built. etc.

It currently works that the tile swapping works by just... swapping tiles. It's easy to make happen. but it doesn't effect anything else.

It can be done in all routes and cities.
indoors, caves and forests aren't effected.
